Industry specialists evaluate the national budget at CA Sri Lanka’s 2019 budget seminar

Industry specialists representing diverse sectors recently evaluated the economic and tax perspectives arising from the 2019 National Budget at the CA Sri Lanka Budget Seminar held recently at the Hilton Colombo. The event was attended by a large number of professionals including Chartered Accountants. CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Jagath Perera delivered the welcome speech.

The first session kicked off with Chief Executive Officer of Verite Research Dr. Nishan De Mel delivering an economic analysis of the budget, followed by a panel discussion featuring subject specialists including CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Jagath Perera, Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance Mr. Deshal De Mel, Director of Hatton National Bank PLC Mr. D. Soosaipillai, Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Development Strategies & International Trade Mr. Mangala Yapa, and Head of Plantations and Business Development – Director, Aitken Spence PLC Dr. Rohan Fernando. The session was moderated by Editor of Echelon Magazine Mr. Shamindra Kulamannage.

The second session of the seminar focused on the tax perspectives of the budget, with a presentation delivered by Partner of KPMG Ms. Shamila Jayasekara on the topic. Her presentation was followed by a panel discussion featuring Senior Commissioner - Tax Policy, International Affairs of the Department of Inland Revenue Mr. D. R. S. Hapuarachchi, Chairperson of the CA Sri Lanka Tax Committee Ms. Hiranthi Ratnayake, Director General of the Department of Fiscal Policy Mr. K. A. Vimalenthirarajah, Senior Partner of Gajma & Co Mr. N. R. Gajendran and Partner of Ernst & Young Mr. Sulaiman Nishtar. The second session was moderated by Partner of Consultants’ Consortium Mr. V. Sivagurunathan.
