17 July 2026: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 17 July 2026 to strengthen engagement between the accounting and legal professions, promoting knowledge exchange, professional development, and other initiatives of mutual interest.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, President of CA Sri Lanka, and Mr. Rajeev Amarasuriya, President of BASL, at the BASL office in Colombo, marking an important step in enhancing cooperation between two of Sri Lanka's leading professional bodies.

The partnership seeks to provide a platform for both professions to engage on matters of common interest, recognising the increasingly interconnected nature of legal, financial, and regulatory matters in today's business environment.

Under the MoU, CA Sri Lanka and BASL will explore opportunities for joint initiatives, including continuing professional development programmes, knowledge-sharing forums, technical discussions, and other capacity-building activities aimed at enhancing the competencies of members of both professions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Subasinghe highlighted the importance of closer collaboration between the accounting and legal professions. "As the business environment continues to evolve, there is significant value in our professions working together to support organisations, strengthen governance, and contribute to the country's development," he said.

He further noted that the MoU reflects CA Sri Lanka's commitment to fostering professional engagement, facilitating the exchange of knowledge, and creating learning opportunities that benefit members and the wider professional community.

Mr. Amarasuriya, described the MoU as a significant milestone in the relationship between the two professions. “This is a historic agreement and the first formal collaboration of its kind between BASL and CA Sri Lanka. As the legal and accounting professions increasingly operate within overlapping regulatory and commercial environments, it is important that we work together to share knowledge, strengthen professional competencies, and address matters of mutual interest," he said.

Through this collaboration, CA Sri Lanka and BASL reaffirm their shared commitment to supporting professional excellence, promoting ethical practice, and contributing to a strong and progressive professional landscape in Sri Lanka.
