4 June 2026: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) felicitated Ms. Samudika Jayaratna, the 42nd Auditor General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at a special ceremony held on Thursday at the Institute.
The event was organised in recognition of her landmark appointment as the first woman to hold this distinguished constitutional office, as well as her decades of dedicated service to the nation’s public financial governance.
The ceremony reflected the accounting profession’s pride in one of its most accomplished members, who has attained the highest constitutional office in public audit. Ms. Jayaratna was warmly received by the President of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President Ms. Anoji de Silva, members of the Council, and Chief Executive Officer Ms. Lakmali Priyangika.
A Fellow Member of CA Sri Lanka, Ms. Jayaratna’s appointment stands as a powerful testament to her exemplary professional journey spanning over 25 years. Her career has been defined by an unwavering commitment to excellence, integrity, and the highest standards of public accountability.
The felicitation ceremony drew a large and distinguished gathering, including Chartered Accountants and officials from the National Audit Office.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Subasinghe expressed the Institute’s immense pride in Ms. Jayaratna’s historic appointment. “This is a momentous occasion not only for CA Sri Lanka and the chartered accounting profession, but for every woman in this country who has dared to aspire to the highest offices of public service. Ms. Jayaratna’s appointment as the first woman Auditor General is a powerful symbol of what dedication, integrity, and professional excellence can achieve.”
During the event, the Auditor General was also presented with a commemorative token in honour of her trailblazing achievement.
Throughout her distinguished career, she has led audits across key sectors including state enterprises, banking, insurance, ministries, revenue, treasury, and debt management, contributing significantly to strengthening transparency, accountability, and financial governance in the public sector.
She has also played a leading role in several high-profile national audit assignments and special investigations, with her expertise widely recognised in supporting Parliamentary Committees and other key governance forums. Her ability to navigate complex financial landscapes whilst upholding the independence and rigour of the audit function has earned her the respect of peers and policymakers alike, setting a benchmark for public sector accountability in Sri Lanka.
Her work has been instrumental in reinforcing public trust in state institutions at a time when fiscal discipline and good governance are of paramount importance to Sri Lanka’s economic recovery and long-term stability.
