
The President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Mr Jean Bouquot, who arrived in the country following an invitation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), held high-level discussions with top government and state officials.
During his stay in Colombo, Mr. Bouquot, who heads the global body of the accounting profession, met with Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Treasury, and Dr. P Nandalal Weerasinghe, Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
Mr. Bouquot was accompanied by a senior delegation from CA Sri Lanka, including President Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President Ms. Anoji de Silva and Chief Executive Officer Ms. Lakmali Priyangika.
The discussions explored strategic priorities in strengthening financial governance, enhancing transparency, and supporting sustainable economic development in Sri Lanka.
The delegation and IFAC President shared insights on the evolving global accounting landscape and discussed how international standards and best practices can be applied locally to bolster investor confidence and national economic resilience.
The meetings underscored the critical role of the accounting profession in shaping policy, advancing sustainability initiatives, and supporting Sri Lanka’s long-term financial stability, reaffirming the importance of collaboration between global and national accounting bodies.
