As Sri Lanka diligently charts its future course with crucial strategies, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) in its standing as the National Body of Accountants, organised its Annual Budget Seminar which featured an insightful panel of experts on Tuesday to examine and navigate the complexities of the National Budget for 2024, which serves as the government’s blueprint for economic recovery.

The session brought together a distinguished lineup of experts including corporate leaders and analysts, who shed light on the path forward in the post-economic crisis era following the presentation of the National Budget in Parliament on Monday by President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The interactive forum was graced by Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, Vice President of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Chairman of the Faculty of Taxation, as well as Members of Council and Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, acting CEO.

The insightful exploration commenced with Mr. Athula Ranaweera, Managing Partner, Ranaweera Associates, and Ms. Sarah Afker, Partner, Tax Services, BDO Partners, presenting the highlights of the National Budget for 2024.

The highlights were followed by a panel discussion which ensured a dynamic exchange of ideas and provided a cohesive narrative featuring Ms. Thanuja Perera, Tax Policy Advisor, Ministry of Finance, Mr. Upul Jayawardhana, Acting Commissioner General, Department of Inland Revenue, Dr. Nishan De Mel, Executive Director, Verité Research, Mr. Bingumal Thewarathanthri, CEO, Standard Chartered Bank, Mr. Udeeshan Jonas, Chief Strategist, Capital Alliance, and Mr. Hasitha Premaratne, Managing Director, Brandix Group. The session was moderated by Mr. Heshana Kuruppu.

The audience, comprising Chartered Accountants, business leaders, c-suite executives, and CA students, was provided with a comprehensive understanding of the effects of next year’s budget.
