Mr. Lakshman Athukorala, a highly respected Chartered Accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), was recently appointed as a member of the Audit Advisory Committee of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
A fellow member of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Athukorala who commands an impressive track record at local and international levels, is expected to make vast contributions to UNICEF’s Audit Advisory Committee with the aim of enhancing the fund’s commitment to maintain the highest standards of governance, accountability, and financial stewardship in their mission to support children in over 190 countries.
Mr. Athukorala made history as the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to a UN Audit/Oversight Committee when he joined the Audit/Oversight Committee of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) in 2017, and having demonstrated his exceptional capabilities, he was elected as the Chair of the same committee in 2022.
Mr. Athukorala, a prominent figure in finance, auditing, and corporate governance in Sri Lanka, is also the Chair of the Audit Committee at David Pieris Group, in addition to chairing several other Audit Committees, and an independent director at Assetline Finance Ltd., Thalawakelle Tea Estates PLC, and Hayleys Consumer Products Ltd.
