CA Sri Lanka’s 37th National Conference of Chartered Accountants inaugurated

One of the country’s most sought after corporate events, the National Conference of Chartered Accountants was inaugurated on 19th October 2016 by Chief Guest, Hon. Malik Samarawickrama, Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade and Guest of Honour, Ms. Idah Z. Pswarayi-Riddihough, Country Director of World Bank, in the presence of Sri Lanka’s corporate glitterati including top business leaders, decision makers and renowned accounting and finance professionals.

Organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), the conference in its 37th year has once again received overwhelming response with over 1600 delegates registering for the flagship event, setting an all-time new record of the annual event, which will conclude on 21st October 2016.

This year’s conference will revolve around the theme ‘‘Unleashed Thinking: Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship.” The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. K Kumar – Chair of the Apeejay Surrendra Family Business and Entrepreneurship, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore who spoke on ‘progress through unleashed thinking.’

The technical sessions of the conference on 20th and 21st October 2016 will feature some of the best in the business, who are both locally and internationally renowned for their unique entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship skills and are known to have taken risks, disrupted entire businesses by incorporating innovation and thereby achieving success.

The 37th National Conference will explore how entrepreneurs both global and local have ventured into different aspects by choosing their own path, and how entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs can play a more significant role in helping Sri Lanka become a global player.

Local and globally reputed entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs Peter Sage, Dominic Mcvey, Dhammika Perera, Marcello Schermer, Ms. Tushara Canekeratne, Naresh Abeyesekera and Sev Vettivetpillai will share insights and inspire the delegates to take the lead in helping organisations unleash their potential while also working to contribute towards helping Sri Lanka become a global player, and reach its full potential.

CA Sri Lanka introduced the concept of the national conference to Sri Lanka in 1979. The conference, over the past 37 years has built a reputation, as a business summit that provokes thoughts and spurs insights into broad economic and business issues; apart from its core emphasis on finance related topics.

The first day of technical sessions on 20th October will see  Entrepreneur, International Best Selling Author and Renowned Public Speaker Peter Sage speaking on ‘The Extreme Entrepreneur’ followed by Entrepreneur, Founder & Managing Partner of Ellestone Apparel and Group Board Director of Hela Clothing Dominic Mcvey speaking on ‘Breaking Stereotypes – Age is Just a Number.’

The third session of the first day of technical sessions will focus on ‘Unleashing Corporate Intrapreneurship’ presented by Marcello Schermer - Regional Manager Africa, Seedstars, Management Consulting, Cape Town Area, South Africa, which will be followed by a presentation by Tushara Canekeratne - Entrepreneur / Founder & CEO of Nadastra, Inc. and Co-Founder of Virtusa Corporation speaking on ‘Harnessing the power of millennials.’
Entrepreneur and Founder of SECQUORO Naresh Abeyesekera will speak on ‘Digitalization - Your next competitive play’ during the fifth session on the first day.

The second day of technical sessions on 21st October will kick off with Chairman/Managing Director of Vallibel One PLC Dhammika Perera taking the stage to speak on ‘No Dream Is Too Big.’ The technical sessions of the 37th National Conference will draw to a close with the seventh and final presentation by Partner of The Abraaj Group Sev Vettivetpillai who will speak on ‘Funding Entrepreneurship.’
