IFAC President call-on His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse

The progress of the accounting profession in Sri Lanka took centre stage recently during a high level meeting between His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa and President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Warren Allen, who was in the country on a four day visit on the invitation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka). During the discussion, Allen expressed his overwhelming satisfaction on the accounting profession has made in Sri Lanka, which he believes has played a significant role in the development of the country. He also intimated to President Rajapaksa that  chartered accountants of Sri Lanka were in high demand across the world.

During the meeting, President Rajapaksa made a request to CA Sri Lanka, in its capacity as the national body of accountants to provide training to accounts personnel attached to the local authorities. Arjuna Herath, President of CA Sri Lanka, present at the meeting assured that CA Sri Lanka will continue to train public sector accountant and will include the local authority accounts personnel in this training. Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of Central Bank, Lasantha Wickremasinghe, Vice President of CA Sri Lanka and Aruna Alwis, Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka were also present at the meeting.
