The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and CPA Australia signed a landmark agreement aimed at creating new opportunities for members of both bodies across the globe.
The Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between CA Sri Lanka and CPA Australia removes barriers, allowing appropriately qualified members of each body to apply for membership from the other body, while also allowing for closer collaboration and cooperation between CA Sri Lanka and CPA Australia to further enhance the accounting profession.
CPA Australia is one of the world’s most recognized and respected accounting bodies in the world, apart from being one of the largest accounting bodies with over 144,000 members across 127 countries.
CA Sri Lanka President, Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse commenting on the landmark event noted that over the years, CA Sri Lanka and CPA Australia have developed a close working relationship aimed at enhancing the accounting profession.
“In our continuing journey to partner with the best, and enhance the professional status of our members, CA Sri Lanka entered into a MRA with CPA Australia aimed at providing reciprocal membership to members of both bodies.
This is indeed a very momentous occasion for members of CA Sri Lanka and CPA Australia, and I believe the MRA with CPA Australia will further strengthen the standing enjoyed by members of both our bodies thereby enhancing the accounting profession further,” he noted.
Mr. Rajapakse emphasized that this agreement paves the way for members of both institutes to work across the globe, whilst removing barriers created across borders for members of the accounting profession.
CPA Australia President, Ms. Penny Egan in her message noted that CPA Australia is one of the world’s largest accounting bodies, representing more than 144,000 members across the globe.
“We are committed to being known as the world’s best member services organisation and growing the value of the CPA designation. Our core services to the members include education, knowledge exchange, networking and advocacy. The completion of the MRA will enable us to welcome and provide services to those members of CA Sri Lanka who wish to also become a member of CPA Australia,” she said.
Meanwhile, the documents pertaining to the MRA was formally exchanged by Mr. Rajapakse - CA Sri Lanka President and Mr. Robert Thomason - Executive General Manager, Business Development of CPA Australia during the inauguration of the 34th National Conference of Chartered Accountants which concluded on Thursday night.
