First ever overseas exam of CA Sri Lanka concludes successfully

The first ever overseas examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) which was conducted in Qatar recently concluded successfully with an impressive number of CA Sri Lanka students working in Qatar participating in the Strategic Level examinations.

The exams was conducted in the strictest of standards under the strict supervision of a team of CA Sri Lanka examinations supervisors led by a specially appointed overseas examination supervisor.

The exams commenced in June and concluded in July. This was the first time in the institute’s five decade long history that a CA Sri Lanka exam was held outside Sri Lanka.

CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse speaking on the successful completion of the first ever overseas exam of the Institute said that the decision to hold overseas exams was taken following repeated requests by CA Sri Lanka students working abroad who wanted to complete their examinations in accordance to the institute’s curriculum, despite not living in Sri Lanka.

“The Sri Lankan Ambassador in Qatar, Mr. Jayantha Palipana played an exceptional role in supporting this important endeavor of our institute and I take this opportunity to thank him and his office for all the cooperation extended to us in helping us realize this important dream,” Mr. Rajapakse added.

The institute decided to conduct the exam in Qatar as part of a pilot project and is currently mulling the possibility of conducting similar exams in other parts of the world, where a large number of CA Students are working.

Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Aruna Alwis noted that the CA Sri Lanka Qatar Chapter played a yeoman service in ensuring this important initiative was a success. “I take this opportunity to thank the immediate past president of the CA Sri Lanka Qatar Chapter Mr. Rukshan Karunaratne for the important role played by him as well as the rest of the members of the Chapter who supported the Institute in numerous ways to ensure the success of CA Sri Lanka’s first ever overseas examination.”

“The Stafford Sri Lankan School in Qatar was also very generous in providing us with their school hall for a period of two days free of charge to conduct the exams and I thank the chairman of the school, Mr. Kumudu Fonseka for supporting CA Sri Lanka in this important endeavor,” Mr. Alwis added.
