The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) has launched its scholarship scheme for the year 2012 which is expected to benefit over 115 students in the country aspiring to be Chartered Accountants.
In its role as one of the country’s largest tertiary education providers outside the university, with a student base of over 37,000, the Institute has called for applications including from students who have completed their Advanced Level Examinations to benefit from three separate scholarship schemes, which will be granted based on their educational capabilities and economic situation.
The scholarships will be granted under several specialized programmes, which will benefit over 115 students from various streams including the commerce stream who aspire to be Chartered Accountants.
Accordingly, a total of 20 students will be awarded scholarships from the GCE Advanced Level arts and commerce streams based on their best performance, while another 25 students who are adjudged district first from the commerce stream will be granted scholarships.
Another 20 students will also be awarded scholarships from a special scholarship scheme targeting students from the GCE Advanced Level mathematics and science streams and in addition another 52 scholarships will be awarded under the L. A. Weerasinghe Scholarship Fund scheme and the Merit Scholarship scheme.

CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse emphasized that the Institute as the national body of accountants strives to ensure that all students no matter from where or from which financial background are given an equal opportunity to embark on a fulfilling professional career.
“The scholarship programme ensures that these objectives are met. The annual scholarship programme is also part of our Institute’s corporate social responsibility initiative,” Mr. Rajapakse said.
“CA Sri Lanka which is a 53-year old organisation, is among the oldest and most recognised professional bodies in the country. We have a membership of 4200 very impressive Chartered Accountants, based in Sri Lanka and abroad, among these members are top level chairman, chief executive officers, directors, chief financial officers and even the Governor of Central Bank,” he noted, while adding that the qualification offered by the Institute is recognised both locally and globally.
CA Sri Lanka’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Aruna Alwis emphasizing on the facilities provided at the Institute noted that by September this year, the Institute will possess a fully-fledged, ultra-modern building with the latest infrastructure facilities which is currently being constructed for the benefit of its members and students.
“Every effort is being made to ensure that our Institute provides the best of facilities and services for the benefit of our primary stakeholders,” Mr. Alwis added.
