Six of Sri Lanka’s exceptionally talented achievers at the 2021 GCE Advanced Level exam who were ranked among the country's top ten were rewarded with scholarships from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) to fulfil their lifelong ambition of becoming globally respected Chartered Accountants.
The recipients of the fully funded five-year scholarships were Rashini Dulya Dias of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya who was ranked Island second, Yasangee Shakya Wekadapola of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya ranked island fourth, Imandie Thanudara Madanasinghe of Visakha Vidyalaya ranked Island fifth, Thinula Chamadith Gunaratne of DS Senanayake Vidyalaya who was ranked Island sixth Mihan Dimath Tilakaratne of Royal College who was placed island seventh and Dona Kulani Ruwanya Kulatunga of Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya who was ranked Island eight.
The scholarships were presented to the students by President of CA Sri Lanka Mr. Sanjaya Bandara at a ceremony held at the Institute in the presence of Council Member Mr. Nuwan Withanage, Chief Executive Officer Ms. Dulani Fernando and Director - Student Affairs Ms. Lakmali Priyangika.
Meanwhile, to help assist students who have successfully completed their GCE Advanced Level achieve their professional dreams of becoming globally sought-after accountants, CA Sri Lanka also launched two scholarship schemes for entry-level. Students who have been among the top ten performers in any stream or students who were ranked first in their respective districts at the 2021 GCE A/L Examination in the Commerce stream can apply for the scholarships.
Recognised as the preferred destination for accounting education in the country, CA Sri Lanka offers a wide range of qualifications, with its benchmark qualification being the Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA). CA Sri Lanka qualified Chartered Accountants' portfolio includes Chairmen, Partners, Managing Directors, Finance Directors, CEOs, CFOs, General Managers, Financial Consultants, and Audit Managers, among other high-profile positions at top corporations both locally and globally.
The CA Sri Lanka programme is offered at three ascending levels, and at each level, the student receives a recognised qualification which guarantees employability and a successful career as a finance professional both locally and overseas. Students who follow the CA programme have the option of exiting as an ACA after completing the Strategic Level, which is the final level of the programme; or alternatively, as a Certified Corporate Accountant after completing the Corporate Level, or as a Certified Business Accountant after completing the Business Level.
The CA Sri Lanka programme has also been validated by the UK National Information Centre for the recognition and evaluation of international qualifications and skills, which said that the ACA qualification of CA Sri Lanka is equivalent to a Master’s Degree standard, while the CCA qualification was recognised as a qualification comparable to a Bachelor’s Degree standard.
At present, CA Sri Lanka qualified Chartered Accountants work in around 40 countries, spanning Australia, Africa, the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and South Asia.
Students who register for the CA Sri Lanka programme can also simultaneously obtain the CA Sri Lanka qualification as well as the Associate Chartered Accounting qualification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious accounting bodies. The ICAEW qualification is one of the most advanced learning professional development programmes available in the world today and is valued around the world in business, practice, and the public sector, thereby providing the students who successfully complete the programme with double the success and enhanced global mobility due to the twin qualifications.
