Internal control, risk management and compliance under focus by CA Sri Lanka, SEC this week

The fourth session of the Corporate Directors’ Programme, organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will focus on internal control, risk management and compliance this Thursday, 17th July 2014.

The session will see presentations by Ms. Shirani Jayasekara, Director of Asian Hotels PLC and LB Finance PLC and Mr. Chaminda Premarathne, Head of Internal Audit of Carsons Management Services (Pvt) Ltd.

The session will examine the board’s role in developing a culture that is appropriate for the risk appetite of the organization and identifies the major areas of risk and strategies to manage risk.

The presentation will also include a panel session comprising of Ms. Sharmini Wickremasekera, Chief Risk Officer of LOLC Group, Mr. Suren Rajakarier, Partner/Head of Audit of KPMG Sri Lanka and Maldives, and Mr. Trevine Jayasekara, Group Finance Director of Brandix Lanka Limited and Director of the National Development Bank PLC and John Keells Hotels PLC.

The Corporate Directors programme kicked off on 26th June 2014. The programme educates directors of listed companies on the important aspects of corporate governance, financial reporting and regulatory aspects, thereby supporting them to effectively manage the affairs of companies for and on behalf of stakeholders. The programme is conducted over a period of ten sessions.
