FAQ for Exemptions

Exemption is defined as the recognition of other professional or academic qualifications and waving off the possible module/s in CA Sri Lanka curriculum based on formal request by a student/an institution, which mean you will start your studies at the right level of your knowledge and skills.

There are several paths to CA Sri Lanka membership and many students undertake prior learning, which is equivalent to some CA Sri Lanka examinations. CA Sri Lanka will determine whether a qualification provides the required level of skills and competencies in order to decide on the exemptions.  The final decision for exemption is based on the discretionary power of CA Sri Lanka.  In doing so, CA Sri Lanka aims to provide students with the quickest possible route to membership.

All exemptions are available on the basis of qualifications held by students. CA Sri Lanka has prepared a user guide to the exemptions enquiry database, which offers a short step - by - step guide to checking what exemptions you may be eligible to claim. If you require any further assistance in regard to your exemptions, please contact CA Sri Lanka Registration Division.

When you first register as a student with CA Sri Lanka you should apply for exemptions. If you have gained additional qualifications since you first registered as a CA Sri Lanka student and believe you may be eligible for further exemptions, you can apply for these at any time later.

You must present official proof of qualifications related documents and also the certified copies of professional / academic transcripts or certificates awarded to you with an exemption request letter to the CA Sri Lanka Registration Division.

You cannot secure exemptions for the modules which you have already attempted and failed. However, CA Sri Lanka will consider exemptions on case-by-case basis.

CA Sri Lanka consider the curriculum of both qualifications, which prevails during the time of application for exemptions.

CA Sri Lanka in general will not consider the qualifications obtained through exemptions. However, CA Sri Lanka will decide that by going through your official transcript/s.

CA Sri Lanka will only consider the qualifications, which are earned for combined exemptions. Therefore, you must have fully completed the both qualifications to be considered for combined exemptions.

If you register with CA Sri Lanka MoAs/MoUs/MRAs and if you have failed any subject(s), which are exempted as per MoAs/MoUs/MRAs, will not be exempted.

A candidate of professional accounting bodies can secure the exemptions under the passed finalist category. Once that particular candidate has become a member of such institution will be considered for exemptions only under the category of MoU/MoA/MRA if any.

CA Sri Lanka will not refund any exemption fees paid prior to receiving written confirmation of any exemptions awarded. Any other fee paid prior to receiving the confirmation of exemptions will not be refunded, but may be transferred to the examination fee/any other payment within six months’ time from the date of payment. Rates prevailing at the date of application is considered for the exemption fees.
